Catching Up

I have made a few things lately, some that I can post, and others that I can't post because they're gifts...but just in case anyone was wondering what I've been up to...here are some pics of what I've been making.

This is a Little Peanut Carrier that I made for my Mom to take as a gift to a baby shower. I love the paisley material and the color combinations! The fabric to the long part of the carrier is light blue so it came out really nicely in the end. I also made a little bag for the carrier to go in because I feel like all that material gets disheveled and needs to have a nice little place to be folded and put in. I can be a little overly-neat sometimes.

Both of my brothers love to wear winter hats so this is one hat that I made for one of them for Christmas this year....I know....Christmas gifts already...I need to get a jump on my seasonal knitting because it'll take me some time to make everyone something. Hey it's summer...I'm a teacher...I have a little time right now!

I love these little booties. They knit up really quick and look adorable when they're done. There are so many different things that I can do with them and they go great with the hats!

The pumpkin hat is one of my favorites so I couldn't resist making booties with little leaves and matching them with the pumpkin hat.

I am also starting a new book today, Hunger Games. I keep hearing about it so I figured I had to give it a try. When I went to the bookstore the man behind the information desk was so happy that I was buying it, he knew right where the last copy was and went from miserable to cheery in 3 seconds telling me to "believe the hype".....so I'll let you know how that works out.

Picnics, Baby Carriers, and Juliet

First Annual Picnic

We had our first annual picnic on Saturday at our house. We had a blast! There were over 80 people at our house including neighbors, friends, and family. There were supposed to be thunderstorms all day, but it only rained for 5 minutes at the very beginning so we really lucked out. I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off all day so the only pictures that I have are the tent and the port-a-potty. Yes, Aug had to get a port-a-potty for the big bash. He loved that thing. It comes on a skid and he was using the tractor to pull it toward the driveway yesterday when our neighbor came over and said "you know you're a redneck when you're pulling a port-a-potty around your yard with a tractor." We had bouncy houses, a huge blow up water slide, sparklers, fireworks, bubbles, and a bonfire. I'm already looking forward to next year!

Little Peanut Baby Carrier

The Little Peanut Baby Carrier is my new thing. A parent came into my classroom to learn how to knit the other day during lunch. So after she learned the basic knitting techniques- casting on, holding the needles, the knit stitch, etc... we got talking about sewing. I am sure that I have told you that I am not much or a sewer- but I do enjoy doing it. She told me about Asian Baby Carriers that she used to make to carry her child around in and said to Google it. So I did. I love these things! They are amazing! I went right home from work and made one and walked around the house carrying Bernie in it. Aug came home to me carrying a knit giraffe around in a sack on my tummy. Um...yeah.

Anyway, my best friend has 3 kids and when we're all together I always take the baby, and I carry him around. On Saturday as I was running all around the party trying to talk to everyone and situate food and all that, when I made it over to my friend, sitting under a bush in the shade trying to get the baby to take a nap. I knew just what to do- I grabbed the baby carrier, strapped it on, put little bubby in it, and he was sleeping in a matter of minutes. It was super comfortable to wear, he was comfortable, and we both loved it! He stayed in that carrier for at least 4 hours. She took him out to eat and then put him back twice. He kicked his legs and laughed and watched everyone while I did everything that I needed to do with him strapped on the front of me. This is the best invention ever! I definitely want to start making them. I have some ideas for making it a little nicer and adding some things to it.

Juliet Sweater

I finished the Juliet Sweater last week (minus the buttons) and I really think it's a great little sweater. I made the small, and it's pretty big. I might make another one and try the extra small. I used a soft yarn and it's really soft and warm to wear.

I almost want to fold it over and button it because it's bigger than I'd hoped. I think it's cute like this too!

The lace pattern is very pretty and was surprisingly easy to make.

Do you ever notice that all my mirror pictures always have the toilet in them :-) This is how the sweater is supposed to be worn with 3 buttons at the top.
